Innovation

The University of Utah is one of the most productive research institutions in the country.

Translating that research into products, companies, treatments, and technologies requires a bridge between the academic environment and the commercial market.

GCP supports the commercialization of University intellectual property and the development of investment structures that help move ideas from the lab to the world.

University of Utah Ventures

GCP partnered with leading venture capital firm Epic Ventures to raise University of Utah Ventures Powered by Epic, a $200 million venture capital fund.

The fund is structured to bring visibility to research and technology developed at the University, by University alumni, or within the state of Utah, and to help researchers, professors, and students bring their ideas to a point where they can attract venture capital investment.

The fund is actively investing, with fourteen portfolio companies to date across enterprise AI, healthcare, energy, and food technology.

Technology Commercialization

GCP has formed a portfolio of subsidiaries to advance University-developed technologies and products, helping them attract partners and acquirers through structured commercialization deals.

A leading example is Ortho Outcomes LLC, a GCP subsidiary created to help bring innovative orthopedic medical devices developed at the University to market. GCP takes on the financial and commercial risk of advancing these devices from early-stage research toward commercialization, bridging the gap between a promising innovation and a viable product. The portfolio includes work developed through the University's L.S. Peery Orthopaedic Innovation Center, which has pioneered next-generation surgical fixation systems for treating cartilage injuries and fractures.
